Pediatric Optometry

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I bring my child in for an eye examination?
At Gold Canyon Eye Center we recommend that children have their first eye examination between the ages of 3-5. Patients are always surprised at how much doctors are able to do on children that young. We have eye charts with pictures on them and are able to determine the need for glasses without having to ask them “which is better, 1 or 2?”

Can my child wear contact lenses?
Yes! At Gold Canyon Eye Center we believe contact lenses are a great option for children to have in addition to a pair of glasses. There is no specific age that we look at. Our decision to fit a child in contact lenses has to do with how responsible the parent feels they are. We want to make sure the child is mature enough to be able to take the contact lenses in and out on their own.
